Steering systems are one of the most significant components in vehicles since they directly related with drivers, and their performance considerably affects the steering feel. However, steering failure can cause hazardous driving situations. Therefore, the contribution of this paper is two-fold. First, it describes the research effort to assess the functional safety requirements related to a steer-by-wire (SBW) system by applying a number of hazard analysis techniques. Second, it presents a fault-tolerant architecture that can be used for SBW systems to improve vehicle safety through better steering capability. The results of this study provided support for drivers with their driving tasks, and an alternative controllability SBW system was used.hu_HU
