A transfer function generation method is applied in the simplest form to find a relationship between the grading curve and the dry density. The method is based on the grading entropy concept and uses laboratory emax test data measured on some “optimal” grading curves. The goodness of results is tested using some additional laboratory emax test data of some “non-optimal” soils mixtures. As a by-product of the research, some comments are made on the “densest packing problem”.hu_HU
