The 150th anniversary of the Metre Convention
also provides an opportunity to review the history of legal
metrology, one of the three subfields of metrology, from its
beginning, and thereby to better understand its current goals
and tools. Where appropriate, the connections with other
branches of metrology are briefly pointed out, as well as with
the Metre Convention and its regarding institutions.
