Servo motor system are key elements of modern industrial automation and robotics, playing an icreasingly complex role in achieving precision motion control and safety critical processes. From the perspective of safety science, the study of these systems covers several closely related areas: functional safety, cyber security, as well as system reliability and fault detection. The safety of servo motor systems is based not only on the presence of protective functions, but also on their integration, the reliability of communication protocols, and the capability of data driven decision making. In this investigation, the aim of safety science is to provide a comprehensive theoretical and practical framework for evaluating the operational integrity, vulnerability, and protection of automated systems. The purpose of this study is to give an overview of the security challenges of servo motor systems and to outline possible research directions at the intersection of mechatronics and safety science.
